If you want to build your CV and add to the range of skills and experiences that will get you the career and the life you want, you should seriously think of event volunteering. For one thing, it can get you into the gigs you want to go to for free (see Oxfam’s site).

Active Leisure
There’s growing evidence to show that we’re not really eating more than we used to but that our increasing girths result from inactivity. This is great news for those who seem constantly to diet without much by way of result. Just get yourself a pair of trainers and get out in them.

Supported Open Learning
The Open University pioneered distance learning in the 1960s and it is the world leader today. We aim to emulate what they do (who wouldn’t?) by creating opportunities for what the OU now calls ‘supported open learning’. This means that you learn in your own time and space, and at a pace that suits you but with the support of a tutor, podcasts, or a virtual mentor to answer any questions you may have. It’s a great way of learning for those who have to fit it around other commitments and who aren’t able to travel to a college or university. All of our products are available as supported open learning and the materials you will be sent are flexible and learner-friendly so that you don’t have to work any harder than necessary to get what you want.

Learning as a Partnership
Partnerships are the life blood of the 21st Century. It is now recognised that public, private and not-for-profit sectors can work together to achieve what they can’t do alone. Working with Colleges and Universities, Flexible Text is able to explore ways in which these institutions can offer new ways of learning to new communities within their current structures. Be There, the BTEC Award in Event Support is an excellent example of partnership working with event volunteers and support workers training in colleges and working at charitable events across the country. Their efforts are nationally recognised and accredited, and everyone wins. One ‘phone call from one organisation resulted in this national initiative.
